HOUSE deputy speaker and Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez asked the government to immediately secure the city’s 12,259-second dose of the vaccine made by Sputnik V.

Due to supply issues of Russian-made COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V in CDO, Rodriguez on Tuesday wrote letters to DOH Secretary Francisco Duque, IATF Chair, and vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez.

In his letters, Rodriguez expressed the “grave concerns and anxieties” of Kagay-anons who were vaccinated with 1st dose of Sputnik V in June 2021 who until now have not been given their 2nd dose.

According to DOH 10 and City Health Office, there are 12,259 who were vaccinated with the 1st dose last June and who are supposedly scheduled to receive their 2nd dose in July but have not yet received them.

“It is already September and they are afraid that the 1st dose will not be effective anymore because of the long delay of their 2nd dose,” Rodriguez said.

“May I, therefore, request an appeal on behalf of my fellow Kagay-anons that the DOH, the IATF, and the vaccine czar immediately fast track the order, arrival, and delivery to Cagayan de Oro of the much-needed Sputnik V doses as they are afraid that their incomplete vaccinations will not give them full protection against Covid-19 which could lead to a further increase of Covid 19 cases in Cagayan de Oro City,” he explained.

Rodriguez hopes that his request will be prioritized by DOH and IATF to ensure that Kagay-anons vaccinated with Sputnik V will be fully protected and that herd immunity will be achieved in CDO by December of this year. (PR)
