A security guard heading home from his night shift was fatally shot by unidentified assailants early morning today in Barangay Mohon, Tagoloan, police said.

The victim, Franklin Salon, 28, a resident of Villanueva town, was with his co-worker, Robert Galagnao, 35, when the attack occurred.

Galagnao, who was driving, sustained a gunshot wound to the neck but survived and is recovering in the hospital, police said.

According to Police Major Renz Marion Serrano, the assailants, riding a black scooter, fired at the victims using a .45 caliber pistol. Salon was struck four times in the back and once in the hand, leading to his death.

Investigators are looking into a possible connection to a case filed by Salon five months ago.

The victim had been stabbed during an altercation with a suspected thief he confronted at work. Salon filed homicide charges against the alleged assailant, and a court hearing took place last week.

Wala ‘ta nakabalo kung nakig areglo ba ni s’ya,” Serrano added, noting that the suspect might have been motivated by the earlier case.

Authorities recovered five spent shells from the crime scene, along with the victims’ belongings, including a sack of rice Salon was carrying home.
