DAVAO City-- The SM City Davao and Lanang Premier opened the Green Film festival where students from private and public schools were treated to a film appreciation through documentaries that highlight issues affecting the world. The SM Green Film Festival (GFF) is part of SM's commitment to environmental sustainability and youth development initiated by SM Cares, a division of SM Foundation Inc. The Festival, which opened on Monday was held simultaneously in all SM malls in the country. It aims to reach one million youth. Liza Mae Carbonilla, who teaches at Tecarro College, escorted her Grade 10 pupils at the festival. She said the film appreciation will reinforce their teachings in schools as it provides deeper information and encourages the youth to do their share in protecting the environment. She said environmental concerns and climate change are included in their subjects as their way of sustaining awareness and interest of the pupils with regards to caring for the environment. Student Charles Carillo, Grade 11 of Agro Industrial Foundation College, said the film was interesting and had given him insights on environment. He said it serves as eye opener for everybody to have a role in protecting the environment. Beginning this month, film screenings will be conducted for free once a month in SM Cinemas and Waltermart theaters nationwide as part of the mall's corporate social responsibility to promote awareness on disaster risk reduction, protection of the planet and conservation of resources. pna
