THE transition team of outgoing Misamis Oriental Gov. Peter Unabia and incoming Governor-elect Juliette Uy held a smooth first meeting on May 21 at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall.
Angel Lim, legal counsel of the National Unity Party (NUP) and a member of Uy's transition team, said the meeting proceeded without issue.
Provincial Director Marisia Naybe of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced the necessary documents required for Uy's assumption of office on July 1.
Uy’s camp requested documents, including those related to cash advances and disbursements. Incumbent Provincial Administrator John Venice Ladaga promised to provide the requested paperwork in the next meetings.
Lim described the environment of the meeting as cordial.
“Professional manner, helping one another,” said Lim.
The transition teams are scheduled to meet again on June 9, when they will also submit a formal request letter for the necessary documents. The ceremonial turnover is set for June 29.
Meanwhile, former Misamis Oriental Vice Gov. Jose Mari ‘Joey’ Pelaez, who attended the transition meeting as part of Uy's team, said the governor-elect plans to visit provincial hospitals ahead of her inauguration.
“Gusto na sya mag suroy-suroy sa mga ospital — that is how eager our governor-elect is in solving the health care crisis of Misamis Oriental,” Pelaez said.
As of now, Uy has not yet finalized her department heads. Meetings on the matter are ongoing, he added.
Pelaez also shared that he will be focusing on the province’s education sector, citing his academic background.
“I have lots of friends in the education sector,” he said.
