LANAO del Sur 1st District Rep. Ziaur-Rahman Adiong has called on the Philippine National Police (PNP) to leave no stone unturned in the investigation of the ambush which wounded Provincial Governor Mamintal "Bombit" Adiong Jr. and killed four of his escorts in Maguing town Friday (Feb. 17).

The Bangsamoro government even said former rebels from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) would aid the police in investigating the ambush.

According to reports, the area was just around 1.5 kilometers away from the MILF.

"We implore the authorities to act with urgency and utilize all legal means available to pursue and bring the perpetrators to justice," he said.

The solon said the attack was a condemnable act and must not be taken lightly.

Also, the Local Government Minister of Bangsamoro Naguib Sinarimbo told in a press conference Saturday, that there is already a direction that the senior commanders of the MILF and the peace mechanisms of the MILF... will convene later tonight.

The governor was ambushed by still unidentified men in Maguing town.

However, based on initial reports from the Lanao del Sur Provincial Police Office (PPO) members of a local terrorist group fashioned from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria are suspected of carrying out the attack.

Relatives of Adiong told reporters the governor has no known enemies and that his clan is not involved in any rido or family feud.

The PPO also said Adiong and his companions, in separate vehicles, were on their way to Wao, Lanao del Sur when they received heavy fire.

At around 4:00 p.m., the wounded Adiong and his aide were brought to Kalilangan hospital and then transferred to another hospital in Cagayan de Oro City.

"We are heartbroken over the deaths of his security detail, all of whom are family members who were with my brother during the violent attack,” said Adiongofferingd their deepest sympathies to all of their bereaved loved ones.

The governor (Adiong Jr.) is now safe and in stable condition, according to the Provincial Information Office.

This was confirmed in a statement to the press by his brother (Rep Ziaur-Rahman Adiong).

"Through the grace of Allah (SWT), Governor Bombit is in very stable condition. The worst has passed. He’s out of danger," he said.
