By NITZ ARANCON and LITO RULONA Correspondents POLICE yesterday pressed charges against PO1Whylder Tañajura, the policeman wounded after allegedly robbing a grocery store in the town proper of Tagoloan in Misamis Oriental on Sunday afternoon. Supt. Surki Sereñas, Camp Alagar spokesman, said Tañajura was charged with robbery, illegal arms possession and illegal explosive possession by the Tagoloan police headed by Chief Insp. Albart  Tare. Tare said Tañajura was caught with a grenade, two caliber .38 revolvers, and a 9mm pistol. Tañajura, a PNP Scout trainee at Damilag, Manolo Fortich town in Bukidnon, was wounded after he and his younger brother, PO1 Niril Van Tañajura of the Gingoog city police, allegedly robbed NSM mini-mart of nearly P6 thousand. His brother was shot and killed. A still unidentified “good citizen” shot them, according to Tare. Sereñas said investigators were subjecting Tañajura to a  background and lifestyle check in the hope of finding out why he and his brother staged the robbery. Sereñas also said Camp Alagar has ordered the Tagoloan police to identify the person who shot the robbers, and determine if he or she has a license and authority to possess and use a gun. Tare earlier said the shooter was an “in-house security guy.” Sereñas said Camp Alagar has been receiving negative  information about the Tañajura brothers, and these were being elevated. Sereñas said the claim that the slain Tañajura resorted to robbery because his child was struggling for life in a hospital was unacceptable. “Dili man rason nga manulis nalang ang usa ka tawo kon nahospital ang iyang anak,” Sereñas said. “The PNP does not, and will never tolerate any of its personnel involved in criminal activities,  may it be petty or serious in nature,” said Sereñas. He said the Tañajura case prompted Camp Alagar to order its unit commanders across the region to exercise their disciplinary powers on their subordinates. “The involvement of our personnel in a robbery... is a serious matter  that must be looked into,” Sereñas said. “While we commiserate over the loss of life in this unfortunate circumstance,we find relief and consolation in the thought that we have eliminated some crooked personnel within our ranks. Weeding out the undesirables among us will not be easy, but we have to do it for the greater good.”
