TALISAYAN Mayor Rico Taray expressed confidence in boosting tourism development by bringing the paragliding sport into town.
During the one-week celebration of the town’s annual fiesta that ended on July 16, the national competition called Paragliding Accuracy Competition was also held as one of the major activities of the festivities, according to Taray.
The competition was held immediately with the launching of its fly site located 600 meters high above sea level in Sipaka Heights and its landing area in Luyong Baybayan in this town on July 14 to July 16, said Taray.
He said that the establishment of the fly site and landing area and the bringing of the sports event in town will greatly contribute to the development of tourism in this town
“Bringing paragliding sports events here through the effort of Governor Peter M. Unabia is a big help to our tourism development,” Taray said.
He added that not only will the town will benefit from this sporting event in terms of tourism development but also the entire province of Misamis Oriental.
For his part, Unania declared, in his short message after the awarding ceremonies, that the paragliding tournament will be a yearly sporting event in Talisayan.
Gingoog City ABC President and City Councilor Robert de Lara, national president of the Paragliding and Hang gliding Association of the Philippines said the association is planning to hold an international competition.
At least 46 paraglider pilots from different parts of the country, including three ladies from Nueva Vizcaya, and two foreigners participated in the event.
