OFFICIALS of the Tangub city government and the recipient public college school, Gov Alfonso D. Tan College (GADTC) on Tuesday started the distribution of tablets with learning modules to their students and faculty, a press statement said Thursday.


They were given the gadgets to be used for the blended distance learning amid the coronavirus pandemic, it said.

The distribution of some 4,000 tablets  started October 28, a day after local government officials turned over the gadgets to the school management.

City officials said this is to address the needs of the students in the shifting mode of classes.

Earlier, the city government allocated more than P15 million worth of learning gadgets for students, faculty, academic heads, and academic support heads of Gov Alfonso D. Tan College (GADTC).

Such aims to help the students cope with the new normal through aiding virtual learning, according to them.

Mayor Jennifer Wee Tan together with the Sagunniang Panglungsod headed by Vice Mayor Alberto Penas led the ceremonial turnover of the tablets.

"The project is part of the city’s augmentation efforts to the education sector, which is addressing concerns amid the shift to distance learning," Tan said.

Tan urged the students to effectively use the gadgets for their studies to ensure a brighter tomorrow.

On the other hand, the students will just need to pay P1,000 as a counterpart to get the tablet and free load.

Only regular students from 1st year to 3rd year are provided with the gadget since they are enrolled in at least 15 units, and students who will be graduating for the school year 2020-2021 will no longer be eligible to take advantage of the free tablet program.

A student's name is registered in the tab and the gadget is programmed carefully so the students will only be able to access relevant applications and games will not be accessible.

Third year AB Political Science student Angelie Anggot from Barangay Bintana, was thankful for the tablet because she said it will help her study easier.

“Swerte kaayo mi sa GADTC nga anaa ang LGU nga nagtan-aw alang sa among kaugmaon,” she said.

The tablets provided are Huawei Mate Pad T8 and are installed with the Learning Management System (Microsoft Education) that will serve as the channel between the learners and faculty throughout the semester.
