By NITZ ARANCON Correspondent THE Martial Law Special Action Group arrested suspected Maute Group liaison officers even as it seized bomb-making materials during a raid in Barangay Macasandig at around 5:40 am yesterday. Police identified three arrested suspects as Monaliza Solaiman Romato, Tahera Romato Taher, and  Gazim Mantawazi Abdullah. Authorities arrested them in an apartment at Sitio Aluba, Barangay Macasandig allegedly being rented by Irene Romato Idris, said Camp Alagar spokesperson Supt. Lemuel Gonda. Chief Insp. Mardy Hortillosa, spokesman of the Cagayan de Oro City police office, said Idris managed to elude arrest. Indris is suspected to be the “next in command” to the Maute brothers’ mother Ominta “Farhana” Romato-Maute who was arrested in June. Hortillosa said Idris rose in the Maute Group hierarchy following the arrest of Ominta or Farhana while the latter tried to flee from Lanao del Sur last month. Police said the two women are distant relatives. Hortillosa said the raiding team led by Chief Insp. Melga Devaras of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) found materials used in making crude bombs. Seized were four M203 grenades, a blasting cap, a nine-volt battery with holder, a C4 explosive, eight detonating cords, 19 100-watt incandescent bulbs, a jungle knife, and plastic bag and plastic bottle containing suspected ammonium nitrate. The raid was carried out based on a search order issued by  the 18th branch of the Regional Trial Court here under Executive Judge Dennis Alcantar. Hortillosa said suspects arrested by authorities earlier confirmed the links of Idris’s group to the Maute Group. Hortillosa said Monaliza and her daughter “Kolingling” (Tahera) served as “liaison officers” of the Maute Group, and were involved in gathering intelligence information for the Isis-inspired terrorist group. Hortillosa said Monaliza, who assumed as financier of the Maute Group, is a niece of Ominta/Farhana. He said she was also next to Idris who was not in the apartment when authorities carried out the raid. Gazim, according to Hortillosa, is the husband of Monaliza but the extent of his alleged participation is still being determined by investigators. He said the suspects were brought to the CIDG in Camp Evangelista where they have been detained pending the filing of charges of rebellion and illegal explosives possession.
