DAYS after providing a venue for pyrotechnic vendors to sell their wares, Cagayan de Oro City Hall approved a request by a vendors group to sell starting at 4 pm at the approach area of the Tibasak-Balulang Bridge.
Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy signed today a special permit issued to the Tibasak-Balulang Vendors Association allowing them to sell in the area from 4 pm to 10 pm daily.
However, these vendors were required to comply with guidelines similar to those issued to the vendors allowed to sell firecrackers and other pyrotechnics near the Rodelsa Circle.

These include their cooperation in maintaining peace and order and public safety as well as cleaning up their designated areas after use.
Aside from compliance with health protocols, the Tibasak-Balulang vendors were also prohibited from selling liquor in the area where a designated ‘marshal’ will also monitor their compliance with the market guidelines.
In his first ‘100 days’ performance report in October, Mayor Uy said his administration will sustain the livelihood of vendors.
“I’ll give them every opportunity to sell provided they comply with our city’s laws. All my decisions are based on improving public welfare but I need their compliance with our city’s laws,” Mayor Uy said in Visayan.
Also today, Mayor Uy signed an executive order renaming the Cogon Night Market committee into the CDO Night Market committee and defining its functions and composition of members.
The committee to be chaired by Mayor Uy and co-chaired by former councilor Enrico Salcedo will oversee the conduct of operations of the Cogon market and night markets in the city.
Designated as the overall administrator of the night market operations is the City Economic Enterprises and Business Administration.
Aside from profiling sidewalk vendors, the committee will also oversee compliance by vendors to the sectioning and traffic management plan submitted by the Roads and Traffic Administration in relation to their designated areas. (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
