MISAMIS Oriental Provincial Commission on Elections (Comelec) Supervisor Atty. Carlito Ravelo confirmed that the office has received a letter of intent from the camp of outgoing Gov. Peter Unabia expressing plans to file an election protest against governor-elect Juliette Uy.
In an interview with Strong Radio on May 13, Ravelo said they are still waiting to see whether the Unabia camp will follow through with the protest.
“Intent man to nila to file election protest. Kung tinud-on ba nila o dili, hulat lang mi,” Ravelo said.
He described the letter as a short, one-paragraph document containing claims of alleged fraudulent activities during the May 2025 election.
However, Ravelo clarified that Comelec has not recorded any election irregularities, particularly since the voting process used automated systems.
Meanwhile, Atty. Angel Lim, legal counsel for the National Unity Party (NUP) representing Uy, said their camp will file an electoral offense complaint against Unabia’s team.
Lim emphasized that the election results were decisive and should be respected.
“The result was a magnanimous decision. The Unabia camp should accept defeat. We are going to pursue any legal remedies available to our client,” Lim said.
He added that they plan to file criminal charges related to alleged acts of terrorism that occurred in the 1st District of Misamis Oriental.
Lim also claimed that Unabia’s camp attempted to interfere with Comelec’s motu proprio action on a motion to suspend Uy’s proclamation.
“We hope this is just empty talk, or perhaps an attempt to intimidate us,” Lim said.
Based on the official results, Juliette Uy garnered 327,305 votes, defeating Peter Unabia, who received 235,023 votes — a margin of over 92,000 votes.
