By NITZ ARANCON, Correspondent MISAMIS Oriental Rep. Pedro Unabia over the weekend claimed that majority of Misamis Oriental’s mayors have already pledged to be with the administration’s Liberal Party in next year’s elections. Unabia told reporters the LP has counted 17 of the province’s 25 mayors, including Gingoog City Mayor Marie Guingona and El Salvador City Mayor Alfredo Tan. “They will support the administration’s candidate for governor and his ticket,” Unabia said. He said he expects more to declare their support to the administration group that would likely field former vice governor and now Villanueva Mayor Julio Uy as its standard bearer. He said it was decided that Balingasag Mayor Alexis Quina would be fielded as the administration’s candidate for vice governor. Unabia said Uy has been working hard to win more political leaders in the province to the administration group’s side. He said a coalition of political groups in the province has started to shape under the National Unification Party (NUP) and LP. The NUP is Uy’s group. Unabia said an agreement has already been reached that Uy would be the administration’s bet. This, he said, should put an end to talk that he has plan to seek the gubernatorial post next year. “Truth is, I will seek reelection,” Unabia said. He said the official announcement would come after President Aquino’s State of the Nation Address (Sona). - nitz arancon
