MISAMIS Oriental Governor Peter Unabia, who is seeking re-election, strongly denied accusations made by his political rival, former Rep. Juliette Uy, alleging that he compensated members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the military during the last election.
Uy made the allegations during a recent campaign rally in Gingoog City, where she claimed Unabia paid off police and military personnel.
Unabia dismissed the accusations as “unfounded” and potentially damaging to public trust.
“We are deeply concerned by these recent allegations accusing me of financially compensating the police and the armed forces. Such serious claims, made without credible evidence, risk undermining the integrity of our law enforcement institutions,” Unabia said in a statement released today, May 9.
He pointed out that no verifiable proof has been presented to support Uy’s claims, and warned that such statements could unfairly tarnish the reputation of service members who uphold their duties with professionalism.
Unabia and his political group, the Paglaum Party, called for a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind the accusations.
“Until then, it is imperative that we refrain from spreading unverified information that could harm the morale and credibility of our security forces,” the statement reads in part.
In addition to the bribery allegations, Uy also linked Unabia to illegal drug activities, citing his past affiliation with PDP–Laban during the Duterte administration.
Unabia rejected the insinuation, saying he remains committed to the principles of justice and due process and emphasized that any accusations must be backed by facts, not speculation.
