ECONOMIC and tourism activities in Camiguin are expected to grow as transportation secretary Art Tugade will lead the inauguration of the upgraded Camiguin Airport tomorrow Friday, 22 October 2021.
In a statement, the airport's improved and expanded Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) will now be able to triple the number of passengers it receives which are seen to boost the recovery of the province’s tourism industry.
“Aside from achieving improved connectivity and mobility for Northern Mindanao, economic, tourism and employment opportunities are also seen with the upgraded Camiguin Airport,” it said.
With Tugade during inauguration ceremonies is Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Jim Sydiongco.
“The airport's expanded PTB can now serve at least 200 passengers from its previous passenger holding capacity of 66 passengers,” it said.
The secretary will also inaugurate other completed development projects, including the airport’s administration building, fire station building, and the completed runway slope.
Camiguin welcomes the operation of its improved and rehabilitated gateway as it is also set to welcome tourists on October 25.
Being the province's lone airport, Camiguin Airport is expected to offer a comfortable and convenient travel experience for passengers, while ensuring an equitable and inclusive growth in the areas of employment, trade, and investments in both the province and in the entire Northern Mindanao region.
