AFTER almost five months since Roland Sherwin ‘Tawee’ Uy and his companion were gunned down, authorities here in Cagayan de Oro City have finally identified one of the suspects and filed a murder case against him.
This was revealed by Police Col. Aaron Mandia, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office director, during a press conference yesterday.
Mandia said they have already filed a murder case against the gunman whose identity is still being withheld pending his arrest.
He said the latest development is the result of the constant follow-ups made by the Special Investigation Task Group-Uy.
Police Major Mariano dela Peña, Jr., Criminal Investigation and Detective Management Unit chief, said their office wants to make sure that all must be in place and airtight.
He said they are optimistic that the case will prosper and that the warrant of arrest will be served in due time.
“We will hold another press conference (at) the next opportune time in order to inform the general public (of) the latest development of the case. We assure the public that we are on the right track and we are aligned with our mandates even in the conduct of (the) investigation,” dela Peña said.
It can be recalled that last November 11, Uy and his caretaker Samuel Pabalan were shot and killed in a quarry site in Barangay Pagatpat.
Uy is the eldest son of Rep. Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy of the 1st District of the said city. He was also the first barangay councilor of Carmen.
His mother, Lorna, and brother Raneir Joaquin ‘Kikang’ Uy is the current Carmen Barangay chairwoman and Vice Mayor of Cagayan de Oro respectively.
Mayor Oscar Moreno then offered a P2-million reward for anyone who can help authorities bring the killers to justice.
Mandia commended the collaborated efforts of the special task group and its operating team.
“The efforts they had exerted pinned the culprit. In the coming days, we are confident that justice will be served to the bereaved family,” Mandia said.
He also encourages the general public to always show their gesture of cooperation to the police authorities by giving relevant information helpful to fast-track the resolution of the case.
