DEPARTMENT of Agriculture-National Dairy Authority (DA-NDA) under its ‘We Drink Milk as One’ program has bought P10-million worth of milk to help local dairy farmers and frontliners in northern Mindanao amid the COVID-19 pandemic, said in a press statement Wednesday.
Through the program, it said the opportunity to extend support to the frontliners by boosting their immune system as they battle against the virus.
DA-NDA said adding that through this initiative, NDA has also provided marketing support to local dairy farmers during this challenging time.
For northern Mindanao, the total budget for the distribution of fresh milk is 2,403,716.68. 1,921,431 of which has already been distributed.
As of september 18, 19,571.40 liters of fresh milk was distributed to 57,520 beneficiaries.
the DA-Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10) received 350 bottles at 350 ml per bottle of chocolate milk on September 18, 2020 at the agency compound.
Under this program, DA-NDA buys milk from local dairy farmers and processors and donates them to select frontline workers across the country.
Along with this, DA-NDA has set up milk outlets in DA’s Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita sites nationwide to provide a stable market for its dairy-partners and to help bring local dairy farmers' produced milk closer to consuming households.
For the period April 29-September 3, DA-NDA through said program has provided 18,871.40 liters of milk sourced from 152 assisted local dairy farmers to 55,520 frontline workers for Region 10 alone. (Angie T.Cabig and Irish Mae Juntahan/DA-10)
