GINGOOG CITY, Misamis Oriental — More than 1,300 Gingoognons filled the streets Monday, July 20, as a two-kilometer civic-military motorcade brought together government offices, schools, businesses, civic groups, and all 79 barangays to celebrate the city's 66th Charter Day and the 47th Grand Kaliga Festival.
The motorcade, one of the festival's biggest crowd-drawing events, left the Gingoog City Hall grounds at around 8:30 a.m. and completed its route by 10 a.m., attracting residents who lined the streets to watch marching bands, decorated floats, and government service vehicles.
The celebration began with a Holy Mass at 6:30 a.m., followed by a flag-raising ceremony at City Hall.
Mayor Erick G. Cañosa thanked participants for the strong turnout, saying the celebration reflected the unity and cooperation of Gingoognons in honoring the city's founding anniversary.
The event also concluded without any security incidents.
Gingoog City Police Chief Lt. Col. Dennis de los Santos said police officers were stationed along the parade route to keep participants and spectators safe, while personnel from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office helped manage traffic to ensure the smooth flow of the procession.
Leading the motorcade were members of the Philippine National Police and other uniformed services, including the Philippine Army, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Coast Guard, Highway Patrol Group, Scene of the Crime Operatives, AFP reservists, and other law enforcement units.
They were joined by Mayor Cañosa, members of the 22nd City Council, city government departments, the Gingoog Tourism Council, the Gingoog City Heritage, Culture and Arts Council, representatives from all 79 barangays, national government agencies, financial institutions, business establishments, schools, cooperatives, civic organizations, non-government organizations, motorcycle clubs, and various government service vehicles.
Adding to the festive atmosphere were the marching bands of Christ the King College, Gingoog City Colleges Inc., Jeshua Septuagint, and Gingoog Christian College. Candidates for Miss Gingoog 2026 also paraded aboard decorated floats, drawing cheers from spectators.
Festival organizers said the civic-military motorcade showcased the strong participation of different sectors while promoting community pride, cultural heritage, and the vibrant spirit of the Grand Kaliga Festival.
