MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon—Government troops neutralized a leader of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) during an armed encounter in Sitio Nalumusan, Barangay Silae, on June 21, 2026.
Troops from the 8th Infantry “Dependable” Battalion, under the 403rd Infantry “Peacemaker” Brigade, launched the operation following reports from local residents, military officials said. The operation triggered a five-minute firefight, forcing remaining insurgents to withdraw.
Romeo Mampinsahan, also known as “Kakoy” and “Yuman,” the commanding officer of Headquarters Force NEO of the NCMRC, died in the encounter. Soldiers recovered two high-powered firearms from the scene.
Military officials described the operation as a significant setback for the NCMRC. Of the regional committee’s six identified leaders, three have been neutralized by the 8th Infantry Battalion—two through surrender and one during combat.
Lt. Col. Jeorge R. Jallorina, commanding officer of the 8th Infantry Battalion, said the operation reflects the military’s commitment to community safety.

“The neutralization of a key CTG leader is a significant step toward weakening the remaining insurgent structure in Bukidnon. While we extend our sympathies to the family of Romeo Mampinsahan, we continue to call on the remaining members of the NCMRC to lay down their arms and return to the fold of the law,” Jallorina said.
The military continues to conduct security operations in the area while encouraging the peaceful surrender of remaining insurgents.
