A CARGO truck driver and his female passenger were killed on the spot while several others were seriously injured when the vehicle they were riding crashed into another truck along Sayre Highway in Bukidnon, yesterday at 3 pm.

The incident took place along the national road located at Sitio Damay, Barangay San Vicente, Sumilao of the said province.

Police investigators identified the fatalities as Roberto Labjata, (driver of Fuso tractor head) with plate number AVA 4809; and his passenger Veronica Labjata, both residing at Nabunturan, Davao de Oro.

While those who sustained fatal injuries to the different parts of their bodies were identified as Christian Garcia (Labjata’s truck helper); Ralph John Conception Diama (driver of Isuzu wing van); his two passengers Felix Diama and Vivian Diama, all residents of South Cotabato.

Garcia was brought to Bethel Baptist Hospital. While the Diamas’ were rushed to Bukidnon Provincial Medical Center at Barangay Casisang, Malaybalay City of the same province for treatment.

In a police report, it was learned that the brake of the Isuzu wing van truck, with plate no. MAA-9971 loaded with scrap iron and driven by Ralph John Conception Diama, was heading North, and malfunctioned.

Diama told investigators that he was about to maneuver to the opposite lane at the hillside purposely to slow down when suddenly the Fuso Tractor head which was at that time loaded with tri-cab units, appeared that led to the collision.

Due to the impact, both vehicles incurred substantial damage.
