THERE have been five deaths in the city over the weekend. But of the five deaths, only two were feared to be Covid 19-related, city epidemiologist Joselito Retuya said today.

The two patients feared to have had been infected with Covid-19 were a 71-year-old male who died on Saturday due to complications of his community-acquired pneumonia and a 74-year-old male who was brought to Northern Mindanao Medical Center from a private hospital on Saturday and died on Sunday due to acute subdermal hematoma.

Dr. Bernard Rocha, NMMC medical specialist, said the 74-year-old male was from Cebu but had resided in Barangay Nazareth.

“He was brought to a private hospital for loss of consciousness. He was later referred to NMMC. Naa’y bleeding iyang utok. The patient’s status was already on ‘guarded to critical’ upon admission sa NMMC,” Rocha said.

He said the patient was a suspected Covid-19 case.

The third death over the weekend was a 63-year-old male from Macasandig.

Dr. Retuya said the patient was admitted to a private hospital complaining of a three-month fever. He said the patient also had chronic kidney disease.

“He died due to congestive heart failure on Sunday and has been cremated early this morning,” said Retuya.

The fourth was a 68-year-old male from Tablon. Retuya said the patient was dead on arrival at the JR Borja Memorial Hospital on Sunday.

“We are still gathering more information on the patient,” Retuya said.

He said the fifth death was an 81-year-old female from Barangay 25. Retuya said the woman had no history of travel, no cough but was hypertensive. The woman had been bed-ridden for about three years already, he said.

“This is a home death. She died at 11 pm on Sunday. The (Department of Health) has declared it as non-Covid death,” Retuya said. (Cong B. Corrales)
