THIRTY-ONE health workers at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) were placed under a 14-day quarantine while eight patients were moved to an isolation facility after Cagayan de Oro registered its 4th Covid-19 case today.
City hall's health workers expanded their contact-tracing work on relatives, friends neighbors, and anyone the new Covid-19 patient from Lumbia may have had contact with after he tested positive for the virus.
Patients at the surgical intensive care unit of the NMMC, where the 21-year-old Covid-19 patient was brought after surgery, were transferred to the hospital's Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Disease (Erid) station. The Erid is where Covid-19 patients and those with severe acute respiratory illnesses are being treated.
Health workers have also started work to identify and isolate members of the city government's Urban Search and Rescue (Usar) team under the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDDRMD) who rushed the young man to the hospital.
The young man was rushed to the NMMC after he figured in a vehicular accident on April 19, and he had spinal surgery on April 21. He was transferred to a private hospital on April 22, and was moved back to the NMMC after he tested positive for Covid-19.
Dr. Bernard Rocha, a medical officer at the NMMC, said the Covid-19 patient is intubated and "guarded."
Rocha said some NMMC patients had to be transferred so they can be closely monitored, and to allow hospital workers to disinfect the surgical intensive care unit.
Rocha said the quarantined 31 NMMC workers are now in the list of people with "High-Risk Exposure" based on the World Health Organization (WHO) standard on Health Care-Risk Management. (CIO)
