HEALTH officials yesterday said the aspiring architect who tested positive for Covid-19 is an Iliganon who has been renting a room in a dormitory here.
City epidemiologist Joselito Retuya said this today as officials removed the architecture graduate from Cagayan de Oro's list of Covid-19 cases, and put him in Iligan City's list, bringing back the number of coronavirus cases in Cagayan de Oro to nine since March.
In the daily press briefing this morning, Dr. Retuya confirmed that the 26-year-old male who arrived in the city last week is only a renter in a dormitory here.
“The 26-year old man’s actual residence is in Iligan City, and therefore, he will be tagged as confirmed positive from Iligan City,” Retuya said.
The aspiring architect, who boarded a ship from Cebu, arrived in the city on May 19 and was brought straight to the City Isolation Unit, together with repatriates, from Macabalan Wharf.
Retuya said late last week that the patient was swabbed on May 21 and his test result was released over the weekend.
City Health Office chief Lorraine Nery said that as of May 24, there have been 271 suspected Covid-19 cases here, and only nine were confirmed since March.
“Total cummulative number nia since March. Mao kini silang gitawag nato adtong una nga persons under investigation. As of today, active suspect cases, meaning currently admitted in hospitals. Naa ta'y lima. Negative ang usa. Ang upat kay pending ang results,” Nery said
Today, she said, the city received only one additional “new arrival” bringing the total number to 622 since March 30.
“Naka home quarantine lang ni siya. Naa ta'y gina expect nga new arrivals today. So, madugang ni sila sa updating ugma,” said Nery.
Of this figure, 207 people are still undergoing quarantine, 412 residents have already finished their 14-day mandatory quarantine, and three individuals will finish their quarantine terms today.
“Tulo na lang ka new arrivals nga atong gina monitor nga adunay symptoms of mild (acute respiratory illness) ug (influenza-like illness) and we are awaiting results of their swab. Naa sila tanan gi house sa CIU,” Nery said. (Cong B. Corrales)
