A habal-habal driver was arrested for possessing illegal drugs while about to pass a police checkpoint in Bukidnon, Monday morning.
Police Lt. Sunday Apan, Sumilao Municipal Police Station head, identified the suspect as Joey Gil Silva, 32, a resident of Zone 4, Barangay Gango in Libona.
He was nabbed by personnel of Sumilao police at a routine checkpoint at Sayre Highway, Purok 2, Kisolon of the said town at about 10 am.
It was learned that police personnel headed by Apan manning the checkpoint flagged down the Yamaha motorcycle with a temporary plate number driven by the suspect.
Police then asked for the certificate of registration of his driven unit and his driver’s license.
The report said the suspect took his wallet from his pocket but accidentally a pack of cigarettes coming from his pocket fell to the ground exposing a sachet of suspected shabu including aluminum foil strips and cigarette sticks.
When authorities frisked the suspect, they took from the suspect a sachet containing a white crystalline substance believed to be a shabu with an estimated street value of P3,000, illegal drug paraphernalia, P9,433 cash, and some personal belongings
The suspect's Yamaha YTX 125 has been impounded at the police headquarter.
Silva, it was learned, was a graduate of the government’s Community-Based Rehabilitation Program.
