A GROUP of Filipino-Chinese businessmen donated 20,000 surgical face masks and 50 sacks of rice to the city government here this afternoon.
Mayor Oscar Moreno said the Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI) handed over the donated items to the city hall.
Moreno said the sacks of rice will be repacked and be given to the city’s residents, while the face masks will be distributed to medical personnel and other workers who are now fighting the coronavirus disease pandemic.
“We will turn over the face masks to Dr. William Bernardo of [city health office],” the mayor said.
Moreno said it is now up to the city health office to distribute the donated masks, although, he added, those who are given priority are the health workers at the city government-run JR Borja General Hospital, CHO, police officers, city disaster response teams, and barangay health volunteers.
He added other entities and institutions have also donated to the city government other items such as personal protective equipment and thermal scanners.
“The most important thing is the community is taking part in this war against the coronavirus,” Moreno said. (Jigger J. Jerusalem)
