DR. Jose Chan has agreed to return as chief of the state-run Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) on Monday following a closed-door meeting yesterday, the Gold Star Daily learned today.
Key NMMC officials were informed that Chan attended the meeting called by Department of Health (DOH) regional director Adriano Suba-an to talk Chan into reconsidering his decision to quit following a spat with his assistant, Dr. Ramon Moreno.
Rep. Rufus Rodriguez of the city's 2nd District was reportedly in the meeting where Chan and Moreno agreed to bury the hatchet - the two physicians shook hands.
Chan quit last week following a confrontation with Dr. Moreno. Initially, he was reported to have submitted a resignation letter but officials later said the doctor opted to retire from government service.
With this development, Chan's absence will be considered by the DOH as a leave of absence until Aug. 2. He is scheduled to return for work on Aug. 3. (Herbie Gomez)
