Egay Uy MAYOR Oscar Moreno’s message during the flagaising ceremony on Monday at City Hall spoke well of the kind of person that he is. I believe the depth of his message has reverberated to the innermost corners of the minds of those who intently listened to, and understood, it. Speaking about the declaration of Congressman Rufus to run for the mayoralty next year, Mayor Oca reiterated that in politics there are no permanent alliances, only permanent (self) interests. He also hinted it may not be remote that the Padayon and CDP camps will eventually merge sometime in the future. Earlier, there were pronouncements from the Padayon camp that Congressman Rufus was eyeing the mayoralty. Two camps, one agendum? The turn of events has displayed the kind of character of some individuals. That which was displayed by Mayor Oca Moreno is one of stable composure amidst political trials, sincerity, and love for true public service. He exhorted the employees of the city government to simply focus on their work and not be involved in and distracted by political intramurals; he reminded everyone that change cannot be expected overnight especially with the obstructions being put up by political kontrabidas. From the looks of it, there was no indication that Mayor Moreno is giving up his bid for reelection next year. The recent turn of events has now clearly defined the boundaries and the silhouette of the political picture. And it will be good for the people of Cagayan de Oro. •• Some observers are of the opinion that when they make decisions, some others may be motivated by greed rather than in the general welfare of the people they want to serve. It may be difficult to really ascertain that but surrounding circumstances may be enough for one to come up with conclusions on what could have moved some others to decide the way they did. Again, this will have to be discerned by those who want nothing else but the general welfare of the people of Cagayan de Oro.
