CAGAYAN de Oro recorded its 5th active Covid-19 case after the Department of Health-10 confirmed this morning that a neighbor of the virus-infected 62-year-old female, who died last month, tested positive for the disease.
During the press briefing at city hall today, City Health Office chief Lorraine Nery announced that DOH-10 confirmed the 14th Covid-19 case in the city since March. The patient is a 59-year-old female from Sitio Macanhan in Barangay Carmen.
Dr. Nery said family members of the woman were brought to an isolation facility from the contained zone in Macanhan, Carmen, on Saturday.
“Previously, na monitor ni sila nga adunay (acute respiratory illness) ug (influenza-like illness) symptoms. This patient was detected because of active health surveillance. As of today, this individual remains asymptomatic,” Nery said.
She said health workers already swabbed all members of the family. Of the five family members, only the woman tested positive so far, Nery said.
With the discovery of the new Covid-19 case, Mayor Oscar Moreno ordered the extension of the focused containment in an area in Macanhan to June 19.
“Even though naka-MGCQ [modified general community quarantine] na, we will still enforce the containment. Kadtong mga wala’y essential nga lakaw, ayaw lang sa. Hopefully, by this afternoon, makahimo’g ordinansa ang city council that will formalize the forced containment of the area. Arun dili mulangkat sa ubang areas,” Moreno said.
Moreno said the family is being housed in the same facility but in different rooms. (Cong B. Corrales)
