"Event organizers, management informed City Hall in advance"

The management of the venue where a Muslim wedding took place informed Cagayan de Oro City Hall in advance and assured city officials that health safety protocols were enforced during the event, Mayor Oscar Moreno confirmed Saturday noon (July 11).

´I received a text message from the management, thanking City Hall for helping them (with their compliance of health safety protocols). What we had done was not out of the ordinary. Busa nalipay ko kay nangita ta og pamaagi nga makatabang pud kanang okasyon (That´s why I´m happy that we found ways to help them during the occasion) while reminding them to fully comply with health safety protocols,´ Mayor Moreno said during Saturday noon´s press briefing.

City Health Officer Dr. Lorraine Nery confirmed that they gave instructions to the event organizers and the management of the venue to ensure their compliance of health safety protocols. She said they signed an agreement stating that they will assume responsibility for any failure on their part to comply with said protocols.

¨We saw their willingness to comply with said health safety protocols and I went to the venue with (acting chief) Nic Jabagat (Disaster Risk Reduction Management Department) and the medical officer in charge of the area to inspect the area, the seating arrangement, the traffic flow, presence of marshals and so on. A monitoring team headed by Jabagat was also there to make sure they complied,´ Dr. Nery said.

Mayor Moreno said he also learned about reports that there were residents who protested the staging of the event. ´I understood their sentiments but I hope that magsinabtanay na lang kita (that we understand each other).

Weddings are a special event for Muslims and every religious faith and City Hall should be notified in advance (about such events) to make sure that health safety protocols are in place,´Mayor Moreno said. (CIO)
