CITY Mayor's Office Chief of Staff Shiela Lumbatan on Friday said the 30th Meat Safety Consciousness Week was celebrated in the city with a display and sale of fresh meat, processed meat, and roasted pig in the city hall mini-park for a week starting on Monday, Oct. 16.
Under the theme "Safe Meat Healthy Nation," the event was organized in accordance with Proclamation No. 276 signed by former President Fidel V. Ramos on October 15, 1993.
Following this proclamation, Lumbatan said the city, under the administration of Mayor Rolando 'Klarex' Uy through the City Veterinary Office Meat Inspection Division, conducted various activities, including showcasing local meat vendors and lechon makers.
One of the highlights of the event was a sports festival held at the El Salvador City Sports Center, where the sports team from the City Veterinary Office won a bronze medal in both badminton and basketball competitions.
"The sports festival aimed to promote camaraderie and a healthy lifestyle among the participants," stated Lumbatan.
She said it provided an opportunity for the employees of the City Veterinary Office to showcase their athletic skills and engage in friendly competition with other teams.
"Mayor Klarex expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the City Veterinary Office in organizing the event and promoting meat safety consciousness among the residents," said Lumbatan.
According to her, Mayor Uy emphasized the importance of ensuring that the meat consumed by the public is safe and of high quality.
Lumbatan stressed that the Meat Safety Consciousness Week celebration in the city brought together local meat vendors, lechon makers, and residents to raise awareness about the importance of safe meat consumption and to support the local meat industry.
