CAGAYAN de Oro City Hall spokesperson Janboy Actub refuted former Mayor Oscar Moreno’s statement that the city lacks water investors to encourage competition and prevent monopolized pricing.

In an interview yesterday, March 25, Actub said it is misleading to claim there are no water investors in the city, pointing out that JE Hydro recently inaugurated operations in Balubal, supplying five million liters of water per day.
“It’s easy to make false accusations, but to disprove his allegations, JE Hydro inaugurated recently in Balubal, Kyogojo is ongoing, and A. Brown Company is now coordinating with the City Planning Office,” Actub said.
Moreno, speaking during his “Pakighinabi Serye” last Sunday in Sunrise Village, Mambuaya, had asserted otherwise.
“In fact, wala’y investment nga naglihok karon panahona. Gahulat sila kay lagi kung kani klase nga gobyerno magdumala, bisan gani atong basura ila nang gikubtan,” he said.
Menzie Montes, information officer for Balubal Heights Subdivision, confirmed that JE Hydro inaugurated its operations on March 8.
“The inauguration of JE Hydro, which provides five million liters daily for 10,000 households, has been a great help since we used to buy water at P186 per drum,” Montes said.
Currently, over 600 households in Balubal Heights benefit from JE Hydro’s services.
Moreno pointed out the need for competition among water investors to prevent price control and monopoly.
“Kung naa’y competition, dili makontrolar ang pricing sa isa ka grupo,” he said, adding that there should be no extortion to attract large-scale investors.
