By NITZ ARANCON and SHIELA MAE BUTLIG Correspondents SOME 125,162 people in Region 10 who were qualified to vote in 2013 would no longer be able to cast their ballots in the May 9 elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said yesterday. Gina Luna Sabio, legal counsel of the Comelec regional office, said this is so because these voters failed to have their registrations validated in November last year. Of the five provinces in Region 10, Lanao del Norte has the biggest number of voters, at 54,282, who lost their right to vote in this year’s elections. Lanao del Norte is followed by Bukidnon with 34,446, Misamis Occidental with 24,908, Misamis Oriental with 9,431, and Camiguin with 2,095. Sabio said the names of 125,162 voters in Region 10 were deactivated, and removed from the Comelec’s list. Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro have over 800 thousand votersm and some 9,431 failed to have their registrations validated by Comelec in November. Meanwhile, Comelec supervisor for Misamis Oriental Joseph Hamilton Cuevas said the towns of Pantar, Tagoloan 2, Kauswagan and Lonongan in Lanao del Norte, are now in the Comelec list of election hotspots in the region. Cuevas said he is optimistic that the Comelec, the military and the police would be able to manage the situation in these areas based on their security plan.
