A 39-year-old street vendor was declared dead on arrival in the hospital after he was stabbed several times by a bystander while in a drinking session near his residence at Barangay Nazareth, Cagayan de Oro City, Saturday evening.

Police Maj. Allan Cairel, Macasandig police head, identified the victim as
Levie Baguio, residing at Sitio Tipolohon, Barangay Camaman-an, this city.

While the suspect was identified as Benedict Mativo, 19, a resident of 9th-39th streets, Nazareth.

Baguio succumbed to four stabbed wounds to his chest. People who witnessed the incident rushed the victim to the nearest hospital where he was declared dead upon arrival.

The incident took place at 10 pm while the suspect together with other cousins was having a drinking spree.

According to the report, it was the victim who first approached the suspect then a heated argument ensued between the two.

The victim, who was drunk at that time, pulled out a bladed weapon and tried to stab the suspect.

“Nakailag si Benedict ug iyang nabawi ang kutsilyo gikan kang Levie. Mao tong iya pung gidunggab ang naulahi,” a witness told police.

The suspect, upon arrival of the police, yielded himself peacefully with the weapon used in killing the victim.
