A MEMBER of the dreaded Batang Mindanao 29 (BM 29) gang was arrested by authorities after successfully robbing a mobile phone store at Cogon market yesterday dawn.

During the arrest, the suspect who is also a dispatcher in the area yielded an explosive device.

Police Col. Aaron Mandia, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office Director, identified the suspect as Ranillo Madronero, 38, single, and a resident of Accretion Area, Barangay Macabalan, this city.

Prior to the arrest, Sowair Hamid, Cogon public market security guard, appeared at Police Station 2 in Cogon and filed a complaint stating that one of the stalls located on the ground floor of the said edifice has been robbed by the suspect.

Hamid said a stall owner told him that a total of six mobile phones worth P20,000 were missing from the display corner.

Police Maj. Julius Saluta, Police Station 2 commander, then reviewed the closed-circuit television which is installed inside the said market.

Immediately, Cogon police led by Saluta stormed the house of Ranillo and arrested him.

In the area, authorities found the six stolen items. When the raiding team frisked him, a fragmentation grenade was found in his possession.

By law, possession of an explosive is a non-bailable offense.

The suspect is now in the custodial facility of the said police station while an appropriate case is being prepared.

Mandia commended the Cogon police for the swift response that resulted in the immediate arrest of the suspect.

He encouraged the general public to be vigilant and always on alert in their surroundings.

“Any information they contributed to authorities is relevant to the success of police operation,” Mandia said
