CAMIGUIN is getting ready for the 44th Lanzones Festival, as the provincial government gathers municipal tourism officers, national line agencies, barangay local government units, and other stakeholders for the initial meeting held on July 24 at the New Capitol Building in Mambajao.
The festival is scheduled to take place from October 15-22, and the decision to hold it earlier was made due to the upcoming barangay election on October 30.
Provincial Tourism Officer Candice Dael expressed optimism for another successful and larger event this year, citing abundant lanzones based on research and observations.
During the meeting, committee heads discussed various aspects of the festival, including the Kalanrakas sa Kabataan (youth competition), Ugmad (fair trade), visual merchandising, and the parade.
The Kalanrakas sa Kabataan will kick off on October 16 at 8:30 a.m. in Catarman with seven contingents, followed by an afternoon activity in Sagay with six contingents.
Guinsiliban will host their event on October 17 at 9:00 a.m. with four contingents, while Mahinog will have their event in the afternoon with five contingents.
Mambajao will hold its event on October 18 with 14 contingents.
Regarding visual merchandising, barangays were informed that the booths used during Panaad 2023 will be utilized for the festival.
The booths will be judged based on their decoration and the presented products.
Local government units are encouraged to participate in the visual merchandising contest by decorating their areas with indigenous materials.
Judging criteria include appearance, construction and execution, as well as originality.
The first judging for LGUs and barangays will take place on October 1, with the final judging on October 15 and winners declared on October 22.
The Ugmad, which showcases agricultural products, will run from October 9-28.
The parade on October 15 encourages participants to wear lanzones decorated buli hats with a touch of island vibes.
The provincial government plans to hold additional meetings to finalize the remaining activities for the Lanzones Festival.(With RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
