IN a significant step towards advancing higher education in Cagayan de Oro, Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy was presented with the 'City College Perspective', a comprehensive plan outlining the future development of the City College of Cagayan de Oro, promising new opportunities for local students and the broader community.
Mayor Uy has even given the go-ahead to the City Engineering Office to make sure the land being prepared for the new City College is focused on first.
"He (Uy) wants the land ready so they can start building soon," said City Mayor's Office chief of staff Sheila Lumbatan.
The Mayor was really happy with the new designs for the college's main offices, places for students to live, and other important buildings, according to Lumbatan.
These designs were shown to him by Dr. Jestoni P. Babia, who is the head of City College, and Dr. Alicia Anghay, who takes care of education in the city.
She said they all met up in the Mayor's office on Thursday, January 11.
Mayor Uy said that the money for the college is all set and he's looking forward to seeing the start of construction this year.
He's working hard to make education in the city better while he's Mayor, according to Lumbatan.
They've picked a place in Barangay Dansolihon, this city for the college to be built, so it can add to the education in the city without getting in the way of other colleges and universities that are already there.
The City College came into being in 2023 when a new rule, City Ordinance 14564, was brought in by City Councilor Suzette Magtajas-Daba.
"The college will make it easier for people in the city to get an education, which will help the city grow and get better for a long time," Lumbatan said.
People who work for the city are saying that the new college is really important and will make the city's education even better.
They see the college, Lumbatan said as a place where people can learn and grow, and also as a place that helps everyone in the community.
Mayor Klarex and his team are making sure everything is done so that the City College of Cagayan de Oro can open soon.
Now that everything is moving forward, the college will be able to welcome students before too long.
"This shows that the city is committed to making education better and helping the city progress," said Lumbatan.
