IN a major initiative aimed at empowering women, the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, chaired by Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy, on Wednesday embarked on a significant mission to aid marginalized women within the community.
Under Mayor Uy’s leadership, Sheila Lumbatan, the Chief of Staff and GAD Co-chair, has successfully facilitated the distribution of sacks of rice, marking a noteworthy step towards supporting the underprivileged.
"It's worth 200 thousand from last year’s budget, but we implemented it this year," said Lumbatan.
Lumbatan, who is also the GAD's focal person, played a pivotal role in orchestrating the handover of these essential supplies to the recipients.
The event underscored the city’s commitment to fostering opportunities for sustainable livelihoods through the Bigasan Livelihood Program.
According to Lumbatan, this initiative targets members of the Federation of Barangay Women Development Committee (FBWDC), providing them with much-needed support to achieve economic empowerment and self-sufficiency.
"This initiative is designed to empower community women by opening up avenues for sustainable livelihood," Lumbatan emphasized during the event.
