THE City Council committee on health and health insurance chaired by Councilor Maria Lourdes S. Gaane on Tuesday discussed the sale incident at Atrium, Limketkai Center last August 15, 2020. It may be recalled that a large crowd of shoppers gathered at the Limketkai Mall on Saturday for the week-long sale.
During the meeting, Atty. Ann Abbu of Limketkai Center informed the committee that the sale was initiated by one of its tenants.
She said prior to the event, the tenant was able to produce permits from Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Office of the City Mayor, and the City Tourism Office.
With the permits presented, Limketkai management allowed the sale subject to the condition that the minimum health requirement shall be observed, Atty. Abbu cited.
She explained that the Atrium was used as the venue for the sale considering the volume of stocks, they are disposing instead of their existing store, to ensure also the health protocols especially physical distancing, will be followed.
Based on the plan presented to the Limketkai management, only 300 costumers will be catered in a day. Priority numbers will be given by the Planet Sports management. Out of 300 customers, only 80 will be allowed to enter at a time, 50 will be stationed at the waiting area and the 30 will be allowed to shop first to observe proper physical distancing.
The Limketkai representative said all shoppers, however, wanted to enter and get hold of the passes/priority numbers.
“This caused the customers to flock. Despite the efforts of mall’s security and police that were deployed,” she stressed.
It was learned that Limketkai Center advised the tenant to immediately stop the event until a viable scheme is presented considering all health protocols.
For her part, City DILG Director Jane Docallos said the DILG-10 was instructed to cancel the permit of the event.
The committee said the tenant should coordinate with Atty. Egay Uy regarding its plan to continue the clearance sale.
As this developed, Councilor Gaane reminded the public to strictly observe safety health protocols. (SP)
