EXCITEMENT is building up as the city of Cagayan de Oro prepares for its inaugural Higalaay Ultramarathon, scheduled to take place this weekend.
City Mayor's Office Chief of Staff, Sheila Lumbatan, made the following statements in response to the event, which has received considerable attention.
Lumbatan said that organized by the One CdeO Runners Club, the ultramarathon has attracted participation from numerous long-distance runners hailing from different parts of Mindanao.
The race will kick off on Saturday night, November 18, at the city hall quadrangle.
Participants will embark on a grueling 50-kilometer run, starting precisely at 10 p.m.
For those seeking a slightly shorter challenge, a 25-kilometer run will commence at 1 a.m. on Sunday, also at the city hall.
She said Mayor Klarex Uy has expressed his full support for the event, recognizing its potential to make a positive impact on the community.
The proceeds from the ultramarathon will be dedicated to the One CdeO Runners Club's community outreach program.
Specifically, the funds will benefit children residing in the city-run Home Care for Girls and Bahay Pag-asa for Boys.
During a courtesy visit to Mayor Uy, Ambassador Ringky Tagarda and race organizers discussed the logistics and details of the event.
The organizers expressed their gratitude to the mayor for his endorsement and shared their excitement about the high level of participation from both locals and those residing in neighboring areas of Northern Mindanao.
The Higalaay Ultramarathon promises to be an exhilarating experience, showcasing the endurance and determination of the participants, according to Lumbatan.
