AUTHORITIES are now looking into the identity of the suspect who shot and killed a 28-year-old Opol resident following a fracas in one of the resto-bars in Cagayan de Oro City early at 1:40 this morning.

Police Col. Aaron Mandia, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office director, identified the victim as Avelino Jhon Mahorenos, married, a resident of Luyong Bonbon, Opol, Misamis Oriental.

The victim succumbed to two gunshot wounds to the left part of his neck and left part of his chest, resulting in his instantaneous death.

Somebody in the area was able to take a video of the said fight and uploaded it on Facebook.

Police Maj. Julius Saluta, Police Station 2 commander said, prior to the killing, the group of both the victim and the suspect were having a drinking session at the said place when suddenly a heated argument between the group happened then a free-for-all fight followed.

“Ang payong-payong sa suspek morag gauyogon sa grupo sa biktima. Then ulan man so naay tubig nanglagsik padulong the grupo sa suspek. Nahitabo dayon ang panaglalis nga mipaingon sa sumbagay,” Saluta said.

Saluta said three of the victim’s friends were brought by the responding policemen led by Police Lt. Arlie Cardinal, police station 2 deputy commander for queries.

Security personnel at the said establishment pacified the commotion.

However, the victim and his companions still chased the suspect and his group down the street.

At about 80 meters away from the said establishment, the suspect opened the door of his parked pick-up, took out a gun, and shot the victim twice.

After the killing, the suspect together with his companions hurriedly left the place using the said vehicle with an unknown plate number.

Saluta said a thorough investigation is now being conducted by his men on the identity of the suspect and his companions.
