CARMEN Chairman Raineir Joaquin ‘KapKik’ Uy said he is seeking to serve Cagayan de Oro as his way of giving back to the city where he was born and raised.

“Dinhi ta nahigugma, dinhi ta nasakitan,” Uy said during the Pagila 2025 forum held at Xavier University yesterday, April 12.

Pagila 2025 is a “get to know your politician” event where congressional candidates were asked to share their views on various local and national issues.

When asked about political dynasties, Uy abstained from supporting any legislation to ban them, saying public office should be based on merit, not inheritance.

“Public office is not inherited sa mga sumusunod na mga anak or relatives nga magpapili but magpapili ta kay tungod through merit, performance, and sa iyang track records,” Uy said.

On the issue of divorce, Uy expressed opposition, citing his Catholic beliefs and the sanctity of marriage.

“Kung ipasayon ang divorce law mura tag ga encouraged nga mag minyo unya mawala ra pud tungod sa divorce law,” he said.

Uy expressed support for the re-imposition of the death penalty but did not elaborate.

On vote buying and selling, Uy acknowledged it is illegal in the Philippines and said it is up to the Commission on Elections to address the issue.

He added that he supports the strict implementation of laws against vote buying and selling to ensure fair and clean elections.
