THE Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental chapter of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) recently marked a series of historic achievements, celebrating its growing impact in both the media industry and community service.
The milestone event gathered KBP members, media professionals, government officials, and special guests — testament to the chapter’s unwavering commitment to ethical broadcasting and public service.
Among the event’s most notable highlights was the launch of the first-ever KBP Night Fun Run in Northern Mindanao, a groundbreaking outreach program benefiting children with leukemia under the care of Leupapo Inc., led by Rexel Clarazabal.
The run brought together media practitioners and the wider community in a united effort to raise funds and provide much-needed supplies and financial aid to young patients and their families.
“This marks a first in the history of KBP in Northern Mindanao,” said chapter chairman Dr. Ronnie Waniwan, emphasizing that the initiative reflects their broader mission: to serve not only through media but also through meaningful community engagement.
The spirit of unity and collaboration resonated throughout the evening, with a passionate call to action delivered by a KBP representative: “If KBP has achieved anything, it’s because I did it, the officers did it — we all did it!” Waniwan declared to enthusiastic applause.
Another landmark moment was the inaugural KBP Awards Night in CDO-Misamis Oriental, recognizing media professionals who have made exceptional contributions to journalism and public discourse across Mindanao.
The event set a new benchmark for excellence and integrity in local broadcasting.
A distinguished panel of judges lent credibility and prestige to the awards. Among them were:

The night also celebrated the first KBP Golden Friendship Awards, where members were honored as “Outstanding” and “Most Outstanding” across various fields, reinforcing the organization’s dedication to professionalism and excellence.
To maintain the integrity of the judging process, Atty. Pallugna was invited to serve as Chairman of the Board of Adjudicators.
Meanwhile, Lawyer Joel Dexter Nagtalon, election officer and IBP member, delivered a keynote speech recognizing the vital role media plays in democratic processes.
Chairman Waniwan described the event as a “celebration of progress and purpose,” reflecting on the chapter’s journey in championing responsible journalism, strengthening public trust, and fostering unity among media workers.
The event closed with a powerful rallying cry: “Long live KBP CDO-Misamis Oriental!”—a call for continued service, innovation, and leadership in the media landscape.
Looking ahead, the KBP CDO-MisOr leadership expressed its commitment to launching more initiatives that promote civic engagement, social responsibility, and journalistic integrity.
“As we celebrate these milestones,” Waniwan said, “we are reminded of the essential role that responsible media plays in building strong communities and a better nation.”
