EARLIER today, Mayor Rolando 'Klarex' Uy and National Housing Authority 10 Regional Manager Alfonso Borlagdan spearheaded the groundbreaking ceremony of a new housing project located in Barangay San Simon.
This new significant development was announced by the city mayor's office chief of staff Shiela Lumbatan.
"The housing project aims to build 66 duplex-type housing units," said Lumbatan.
These units will be available for 132 housing beneficiaries, providing them with a much-needed home, she added.
According to Lumbatan, the city owns the land on which the project will be constructed, which has been handed over to the NHA in a deal worth P50 million.
"This is part of the city's efforts to address the housing needs of its residents," Lumbatan stressed.
Mayor Klarex, in his address, thanked the NHA and other stakeholders, particularly the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Department (DHSUD), for their unwavering support of the city's housing program.
The DHSUD's involvement in the project is seen as an integral part of ensuring its success, said Mayor Uy.
In his remarks, the mayor stressed the government's responsibility to provide adequate and decent housing for its citizens.
He pointed out that housing remains a significant challenge for the city, with many people still in need of suitable homes.
Further, City Housing & Urban Development Department Head Atty. Samuel Rollo explained that families affected by government projects and demolitions would be the primary beneficiaries of this housing project.
Currently, Rollo said there are 22,000 housing applicants recorded at the office of the CHUDD.
These figures underscore the urgent need for housing projects like the one being initiated in Barangay San Simon.
Present at the event were City Councilors Atty. James Judith and Malvern Esparcia, who represented Vice Mayor Jocelyn Rodriguez.
Also, city hall department managers, City Police Director Salvador Radam, and San Simon barangay council headed by Punong Barangay Fernando Edrolin graced the occasion.
