THE recently concluded Freshmen Orientation and Get Together (FIOGET) for the 3,000 newly accepted city scholars, organized by the City Scholarships Office (CSO) under the leadership of Richel Petalcurin-Dahay, proved to be a resounding success.
The event, which took place from September 5 to September 19, according to City Mayor's Ofgice Chief of Staff Shiela Lumbatan aimed to prepare the scholars for their academic journey and instill in them the values needed for success.
During the orientation, parents of the students were also in attendance, demonstrating the importance of family involvement in the scholars' educational pursuits.
"The orientation covered various topics, including the vision and mission of the city scholarship program, as well as student affairs and formation activities," said Lumbatan.
The City Scholarships Office also provided comprehensive information on scholarship policies and guidelines.
In a heartfelt video message, Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy expressed his unwavering support for the scholars.
He emphasized the significance of valuing oneself, parents, the community, and the Almighty in order to achieve success as city scholars.
Mayor Uy urged the students to love and appreciate themselves, highlighting the importance of self-worth and self-care on their educational journey.
Partner schools collaborating with the LGU-CDO enrolled the newly accepted city scholars in esteemed institutions such as Liceo de Cagayan University,
Capitol University, PHINMA-Cagayan de Oro College (PHINMA-COC), Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan, Lourdes College, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), Pilgrim Christian College,
Also included are Southern de Oro Philippines College (SPC), STI College, and three additional academic institutions, namely Golden Heritage Polytechnic College, Vineyard International Polytechnic College, and Informatics Computer Institute-Cagayan de Oro Center, Inc.
The FIOGET aimed to introduce the city scholars to their respective university scholarship coordinators and the dedicated personnel of the City Scholarships Office.
"It sought to foster unity and camaraderie among the scholars through interactive games, productive group discussions, and other engaging activities," said Lumbatan.
She added by creating a sense of belonging, the program aimed to empower the scholars and provide them with a strong support system as they embark on their educational journey.
Mayor Klarex Uy's commitment, according to Lumbatan to providing good quality education to the city scholars is evident in his active involvement and support for the FIOGET.
"The event served as an important stepping stone in helping the scholars understand the value of education, self-development, and community engagement," Lumbatan stressed.
She said that with the Mayor's guidance and the collaboration of various institutions, the city scholars are well-equipped to excel academically and make a positive impact in their communities.
