IN an announcement made by the Chief of Staff of the City Mayor's Office, Shiela Lumbatan, it has been revealed that the City College of Cagayan de Oro, under the administration of Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy, will be expanding its offerings by introducing additional diploma and technical-vocational courses when it opens its doors in 2024.
Lumbatan said, that City College president Dr. Jestoni P. Babia, has shared that the institution will be offering additional courses.
She said such as Bachelor of Technical Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTED), Bachelor of Technical Livelihood in Education (BTLED), Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Emergency Medical System (EMS) NC II, Bookkeeping NC II, and Diploma in Educational Engineering and Technology.
The establishment of the City College of Cagayan de Oro came to fruition in the year 2023 through City Ordinance 14564, spearheaded by City Councilor Suzette Magtajas-Daba.
The groundbreaking for the City College took place during Mayor Klarex's first term, specifically in Barangay Dansolihon.
The aim was to create an educational institution that would not just rival the existing colleges and universities in Cagayan de Oro, but also provide more accessible options for higher education within the local community, according to Lumbatan.
To support the development of the main campus, Mayor Klarex has already initiated the construction of access roads in collaboration with the City Engineering Office.
"This land development project will facilitate easier access to the college for students and faculty alike," said Lumbatan.
Lumbatan explained that the expansion of diploma and technical-vocational courses at the City College of Cagayan de Oro reflects the commitment of the local government to provide diverse educational opportunities for the city's residents.
"With these new offerings, individuals will have a wider range of educational pathways to choose from, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge for their chosen professions," stressed Lumbatan.
