CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Rolando Klarex Uy's office, led by Chief of Staff Shiela Lumbatan, shared an important update on Monday.
They have provided scholarships to 9,053 students in the city and have plans to expand the program to include law and medical students.
Lumbatan stated that this effort is a component of Mayor Uy's RISE agenda, aimed at enhancing the city's economy for ordinary households.
One of the notable achievements is that Jhon Paul C. Magdayo secured the sixth position out of 17,576 candidates in the recent Criminology Licensure Exam, according to Lumbatan.
Magdayo expressed his gratitude for achieving this feat and attributed his success to his hard work and the support of his family.
He mentioned that despite coming from a poor background, he was inspired by his older sibling, who passed the NAPOLCOM exam and now serves in the Philippine National Police.
Reymond Pabelic, another city scholar, ranked seventh in the same Criminology Licensure exam.
He shared words of wisdom for college students, emphasizing the importance of perseverance, setting goals, and relying on the support of family and faith in God.
Pabelic mentioned his struggles in high school and how his perspective on education changed during college, motivating him to excel and meet the requirements for the City Scholarship program.
Both Magdayo and Pabelic showed that academic achievements are not limited to students who excelled in high school.
They urged fellow students to work hard, be disciplined, and pursue their interests with passion.
Pabelic, who is among the 1,600 graduates of the Iskolar sa Dakbayan (ISDA) Batch 2019, is currently taking a well-deserved break after the demanding board exam.
He is contemplating whether to pursue a teaching position at his alma mater or apply to a government agency.
Pabelic is expected to meet Mayor Uy this week and receive a cash incentive from the LGU-CDO through the City Scholarships Office.
The LGU-CDO, under Mayor Klarex Uy's administration, has supported a total of 9,053 city scholars.
