CITY Mayor Rolando Klarex Uy expressed his admiration and congratulations to a young athlete from Cagayan de Oro who has brought great pride and honor to the city through his achievements in the sport of Taekwondo.
The honored individual, Cyriel Jores Soriano Valdez, was personally recognized by the Mayor during the city's "People's Day" celebration at the city hall on Wednesday, October 18, according to the City Mayor's Chief of Staff, Shiela Lumbatan.
Lumbatan reported that Valdez represented the country in the recently concluded International Florida Open held in Ocala, Florida, where he secured a gold medal in the Poomsae category and silver medals in both Sparring and Board Breaking.
He also achieved a gold medal in the Poomsae event at the Sunshine State Taekwondo in Winter Haven, Florida, and silver medals in Sparring, Poomsae, and Board Breaking at the prestigious Yong In International Presidential Taekwondo Open Championship held at the World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mayor Uy commended Valdez for his hard work, dedication, and exceptional performance in international competitions, noting that he brought honor not only to himself but also to the city of Cagayan de Oro and the Philippines as a whole.
Lumbatan noted that Mayor Klarex is committed to supporting and promoting the development of local athletes and their sports programs.
"The city government will continue to provide assistance and opportunities for athletes like Valdez to excel in their chosen fields," Uy was quoted as saying by Lumbatan.
Valdez's outstanding accomplishments serve as an inspiration to other young athletes in the city, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and strive for excellence in sports, added Lumbatan.
"Mayor Uy and the entire community are proud of Valdez's achievements, and they look forward to witnessing more of his success in the future," said Lumbatan.
