CAGAYAN de Oro City has taken a significant step towards digital connectivity as the implementation of free WIFI has commenced.
Shiela Lumbatan, the chief of staff of the City Mayor's Office, expressed the following statements in response to the recent partnership between the city government and a range of telecommunication companies and Internet service providers.
Lumbatan ssid the partnership is to establish additional satellite towers in key areas of the city.
"This initiative aims to expand the signal coverage and provide enhanced WIFI access throughout the community," Lumbatan explained.
Residents can now enjoy free public WIFI access in select Barangays, thanks to this program that is part of Mayor 'Klarex's comprehensive RISE CDO agenda, acvording to Lumbatan.
The RISE agenda focuses on regional leadership, institutional development, safety and security, and economic recovery, with an emphasis on improving the quality of services provided by the City Hall.
Mayor Uy has emphasized his commitment to enhancing the services offered by the City Hall to the people of Cagayan de Oro.
"The integration of free WIFI aligns with this vision, as it enables increased digital connectivity and access to information," said Lumbatan.
She said it also reflects the city's efforts to adapt to the rapidly evolving technological landscape and meet the needs of its residents in the digital age.
The implementation of free WIFI underscores the city government's dedication to bridging the digital divide and promoting inclusivity.
"Access to the Internet has become crucial for various aspects of daily life, including education, communication, and business," Lumbatan stressed.
By providing free WIFI in select Barangays, the city aims to ensure that more residents have the opportunity to connect online and take advantage of the numerous benefits it offers.
In addition, Lumbatan also added thst the WIFI initiative aligns with the city's pursuit of the 'Seal of Good Local Governance' program.
"This program recognizes local governments that demonstrate exemplary performance in various areas, including financial management, social protection, and business-friendliness," she explained.
By investing in digital infrastructure and connectivity, Cagayan de Oro City showcases its commitment to meeting the criteria for the 'Seal of Good Local Governance, according to Lumbatan.
