By NITZ ARANCON and LITO RULONA Correspondents REP. Rolando “Klarex” Uy of the city’s 1st District yesterday openly withdrew his support from Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Manuel Roxas II even as he declared his support for the presidential bid of Sen. Grace Poe. The move is seen to affect the local LP group that has fielded Uy’s son Joaquin Rainier as the running mate of reelectionist Mayor Oscar Moreno, the administration party’s chairman here. Uy has yet to give a reason for his surprising move but his chief of staff, Shiela Lumbatan, said the reelectionist congressman started helping Poe in her campaign during the first presidential debate at Capitol University (CU) here. Jonathan Gayla, a barangay councilor in Canitoan closely associated with Uy, said the congressman decided to withdraw his support from Roxas because the LP standard bearer just wouldn’t let go of his challenger, Councilor Lourdes Darimbang. “Dili buhian ni Mar Roxas si Darimbang. Mao ni rason nga si Klarex mibiya pag-support ni Roxas,” said Gayla. Darimbang’s husband Mandangan is the regional director of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) which is under the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC). Roxas used to be a DOTC secretary. Uy met Poe during a political gathering of about 300 people at Middleton Apartelle yesterday afternoon where he endorsed Poe and Manila Vice Mayor Francisco Domagoso, popularly known as Isko Moreno. But Uy said his full support for the reelection bid of Mayor Moreno and his candidates remain strong. Uy then accompanied Poe to the St. Augustine Cathedral where they met with Archbishop Antonio Ledesma before an evening rally at upper Carmen.
