CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Rolando 'Klarex' Uy late Wednesday afternoon directed the head of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) to take immediate action to apprehend suspects involved in two separate shooting incidents that occurred within the city on Wednesday, February 28.
The mayor particularly ordered COCPO chief Police Colonel Salvador Radam to respond swiftly to these recent violent incidents in the city.
The first incident took place in Barangay Bulua, where a tragic shooting claimed the life of Leonard Calunod, a 38-year-old ginger supplier from Kiburiao, Quezon, Bukidnon.
Reports said that Calunod was allegedly shot by an irate businessman who quickly fled the scene after the incident at Zone 2, Lower Bulua, yesterday afternoon. The suspect has not been identified as of press time.
Mayor Klarex has emphasized the urgency of the situation by instructing Radam to personally lead police operations aimed at capturing the suspect responsible for the crime.
The communities at the area remain shocked by the sudden loss of Calunod, and authorities are working diligently to bring the perpetrator to justice.
Meanwhile, in another distressing event on the same day, a couple identified as Arnel Intes, 28, and his partner Shenne Baclayo, 28, survived a shooting incident in Barangay Iponan.
The couple, residents of Barangay Igpit in Opol, Misamis Oriental, were targeted in the violent attack that occurred at Zone 1B in Barangay Iponan.
With a firm resolve to uphold law and order in the city, Mayor Uy charged Police Col. Radam with the responsibility of resolving the shooting case involving Intes and Baclayo.
The community stands in solidarity with the victims, and efforts are underway to ensure that those responsible for the senseless violence are apprehended swiftly.
As the authorities intensify their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice, residents of Cagayan de Oro City are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
