THE local board of canvassers officially proclaimed the winners of the Cagayan de Oro local elections Tuesday afternoon, affirming the re-election of Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy and the victories of other local candidates.
In a formal ceremony, Comelec Regional Director Renato Magbutay announced that the proclamation followed the signing of the official canvassed results by the candidates, confirming the final tally.
Mayor Klarex Uy Secures Another Term
Led by Uy, the One Cagayan coalition achieved a sweeping victory in the city council races, winning 6 seats in the First District and 7 in the Second District, totaling 13 of the 16 councilor seats.
The remaining three seats were claimed by candidates from the Suan and former cagayan de oro City mayor Oscar Moreno tandem.
Uy garnered over 174,000 votes, a clear vote of confidence from the residents, solidifying his position as the city’s chief executive for another term. His victory underscores widespread support for his leadership and policy directions.
Tight Race for Congressional Seat
The race for the First District Congressional seat was notably close, with incumbent Lordan Suan narrowly defeating challenger Kikang Kapkik Uy. The final official results showed Suan with 86,209 votes, against Kapkik Uy’s 85,113 votes—a margin of just 1,096 votes.
This closely contested race kept the community and political observers on edge throughout the night, reflecting the vibrant democratic spirit of Cagayan de Oro.
Official Results and Technical Challenges
While most results have been finalized, some barangay clusters—particularly in Bugo, Consolacion, Lapasan, and Puntod—experienced transmission issues due to connectivity problems. Nonetheless, the Comelec assured that the official proclamation is based on the complete and verified canvassing data.
City Councilor Results
The final official tally for the City Councilors in the 1st District are: Des Dahino — 108,315 votes, Roger Abaday — 95,879 votes, Antuy Roa Pascual — 84,132 votes, Aga Suan — 81,281 votes, George Goking — 80,044 votes, Amajing Jing Daba — 77,675 votes, Al Legaspi — 71,979 votes and Imee Moreno — 69,530 votes
For the 2nd District are Yvy Emano — 83,254 votes, Jonjon Rodriguez — 80,881 votes, Dr. Paolo Gaane — 74,645 votes, Girlie Balaba — 63,178 votes, Alam Lim — 60,982 votes, Eric Salcedo — 59,864 votes, Gigi Go — 58,277 votes and Edgar Cabanlas — 57,759 votes.

Mayor Uy’s re-election signifies continuity and stability for Cagayan de Oro’s governance. Meanwhile, the narrow victory of Lordan Suan highlights a competitive political landscape that reflects the active engagement of residents in shaping their leadership.
